Moving to New York City [24 Apr 2009|09:49am]
Hey guys!

My annual update.... I am so bad at this, sorry.  I am moving at the end of summer to New York City to attend graduate school at New York University.  I will be studying Higher Education Administration and will be working part time as an advisor at the NYU College of Arts and Sciences (their largest undergrad academic department).  I am really stoked and nervous about the experience, but it should be an exciting adventure nonetheless.  I have only been to NYC once (only for the graduate school interview), but from what I saw it seems like a happenin' place, he he!  I am just deciding whether to do on or off-campus housing.  Either way, all inclusive expenses are going to be like 50-60K a year... heyooooooo!  Just put it on my tab, Citibank.  My job contract at CSU Channel Islands will be up at the end of June so I will be able to enjoy a month or two of unemployment... meaning hopefully lots of sun on my pasty white skin and hanging out with some close friends.  Take care guys!

En Why You? [22 Feb 2009|11:33am]
Email that I received from NYU:

Dear Christopher,

Congratulations!

After careful review of your application to the M.A. program in Student Personnel Administration at the NYU Steinhardt School of Education, the admissions committee is pleased to let you know that you have passed the first step for admission to the program.

The second step of the admissions process involves your attendance at the Higher Education Recruitment Event which will be held on March 26th & 27th, 2009. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of various university offices seeking graduate assistants and interns for the 2009 – 2010 academic year. Since we can only offer admission to the full-time Student Personnel program to those students who are hired for an assistantship or internship, these two days are critical to your pursuit of admission to our program.

So yeah, I have to acquire an internship next month.  I am trying to be a graduate assistant in their renowned Study Abroad office.  If so, I will be moving to NY in late August.  Pretty exciting!

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Political Science and a Minor in Business Management.

I think I will take the GRE this summer, move to New Zealand for 9-10 months and apply to UCLA, USC, NYU, UCONN and Harvard while overseas.

Maybe I will start using this more. Probably not.

heyyy again [01 Jun 2006|12:04am]

hey guys! it's been a while. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacations so far - I know I am! Well, I ended this semester with a stellar GPA, a 3.9 (well, technically a 3.88 but i rounded up). It would have been higher but Ronnie Guthry Sullivan III set the curve in Literature, elimating any chance to reduce the bomb-age of my final.

As most of you know, I will be moving at the end of september to Bristol, England to study for 9 months. It's such a weird feeling leaving someplace where I know many people to a place where I will be alone - no one shouting "hoffy" to me in the halls, no connections in any departments, etc. It's going to be a big change but a change for the better. It's going to be a huuuuuge reality check for me. Real life isn't what I am experiencing right now. I can't expect to always know someone, someplace. Putting myself in an overwhelming situation like this is going to help me find out who I am and hopefully improve on lots of things I want to change.

I am definitely going to miss the life I have at CSU Channel Islands, but I know I will come back a year later with a new level of maturity, confidence, and intelligence. I will also discover who my true friends are - the people who will continue to stay in contact with me during my journey. Some close friends are also planning to visit me while I am there. I will have 2 one month breaks throughout the academic year, so I hope to do lots of traveling - ireland, scotland, wales, spain, italy, the netherlands, belgium, germany, etc.

Right now I am experiencing odd emotions - it's weird not feeling the need to pursue anyone or keep track of lots of acquaintances. Because, really... what's the point, I am moving. It's pretty nice to live the single life to the fullest. Then again, you do feel slightly slutty. At a small show last night, I realized that I had hooked up with like 6 girls in that building. Yea, I should work on that... i am such a floozie. I am just hoping between now and the time I leave, I can be fully content with myself, not having to have anyone except for close friends.

Road trip '06 is approaching soon. One of my best friends, The Garrett Cimino Blues Explosion is getting married in June in his holy land, aka UTAH. I am sooo stoked for him and his lovely fiance, HP. Myself, Goodslice, and Clinton Roger Hagland are roadtrippin' it up to Utah. With us, we are brining a 6ft cut out of our really good friend, the Nate Baldwin Experience, who is unable to attend, due to being in Guam on a mission.

I am starting to get used to beer now, in preparation for Europe. I am digging HEFF and Sierra Nevada lately... and oh my sweet jesus IRISH CAR BOMBS, a new favorite with my bestests (minus 2). Yea, let me know if any of you guys want to hit up Victoria Pub, it's a lovely place. I should not go there so much, I have lots to save for Europe.

So check this out, I am going to buy a new MACBOOK! They are sooo slick, orgasmic if you will. I am going to start a instrumental solo project once I get the laptop, and record through the GARAGEBAND program on there. Be prepared, I am coming up with really melodic stuff, very explosions in the sky/of sinking ships-like stuff.

I really want to apologize to a certain person who I think does deserve an apology, an action I rarely perform hahaha. But yea, she knows who she is and if she does read this, I am sorry - I was shitty. There's more to the situation that you don't want to know about and you are much better off without a kid like me in your life.

Thank you again, everyone who have shared lots of laughs, tears, and hugs. Let's make this an unforgettable summer!

oh brother, it has been a crazy week. Valentine's day rocked the socks. The .goofer. and I did surprizes for each other. On the night before V-day, I took to El Coyote in West Hollywood. After that i surprized with a show at the knitting factory to see SHERWOOD!! I don't know if you have ever seen them, but they are one of the best live bands I have ever seen. Yea, she really likes them as well so it was a hoot! The next morning, I snuck into her dorm (not her bedroom), and lined up all these hershey kisses from her room to the shower. Then I placed a whole bunch of roses in the shower. The note in the shower said: now that i have KISSED the ground you walk on and showered you with ROSES, will you be my valentine. Yea, call me the corny Rico Suave. Then i figured out her class schedule and placed a rose in every one of her classes before she got there with a little note asking the professor to give it to her. Then that night, she told me to come over and when I did, I saw that the completely decorated her dorm. It was unbelieveable and indescribable. So many awesome decorations... hahaha it was awesome. We drank sparkling cider and watched the notebook... my new favorite movie. And yes... i did cry, shut the fu...

In other news my dad went in for prostate cancer surgery on tuesday the 21st. He will be in the hospital until friday. The doctors believe that it was a complete success. They didnt find any cancer in the lymphnodes and believe it was only in the prostate. yayyyyyyy.

Last night I went to see Jonah at the troubadour. We had some good chats and he had amazing set as usual. That man is a Saint, I swear. Anyone else going to see him at the chain reaction on friday? I am on the guest list so that will save me some cash! Ohhhh, buy his DVD that is out. Good stuff indeed.

words i thought i would never hear [16 Jan 2006|02:49am]
[ mood | worried ]

i'm scared and worried right now. today my father told me that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. it was a miracle that the doctors discovered it very early. a nurse accidently checked off that he needed a prostate exam. he shouldn't have gotten one for at least 4 more years. so if you could, please say a quick prayer for my father. i am just really worried. i am so thankful for my friends who have already given their love and support to me and my family.

three of my closest friends have lost their fathers to cancer. i have crazy thoughts in my head right now. why have i become friends with these ppl? is this a sign, etc? but yea...... i know if any man could kick the crap out of cancer, it would definitely be my father. he is such a strong, amazing man. i wish that we could be a lot closer than we are. i have a feeling that this will bring us much closer. i love him so much and hope and pray that this early miraculous detection in his prostate will lead to a great recovery.

thank you guys for always letting me vent to you all. i am soo lucky to have such amazing friends to confide in. so yea...send a prayer or two toward the hoffmanns.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Wednesday I put gum in [info]viciousadmirer's hair (-12 points). In June I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [info]whorangeprig (-5000 points). In February I farted in an elevator (-6 points). In May I helped [info]sunflowersxox hide a body (-173 points). Last Monday I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-5267 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,
heyitschrish

wow. it was been a while!! i will give ya a little update of the life of the Hoff. School is going pretty well! I love my poly sci classes and my music class, can't stand my psychology class, and my cultural anthropology class is just rediculous. It's just like the movie BIG FISH, but at the end of the class we will most likely find out that our professor's stories are absolute crap. I am currently thinking seriously about studying abroad in the FALL. I am planning on studying in Denmark or Sweden with my focus in european comparative politics. i am soo excited on the thought of going abroad, but i will be leaving sooooo many friends behind, a band, etc. It's a big decision. In other news, i have a lovely girlfriend named karith... and yah, shes wayy cute. i'm way stoked! i have made a lot of friends with the freshmen and i hope one of them will be my band's new guitarist. we are going to jam tomorrow. ohhhhhh DITA!!!!! tackle me in the halls dammit!!! (no one will understand this..). hahah. but yea, i am sooo happy in life right now! thank you colin and meggers for everything you do for me. I love you two soo much. Dammit hiram, we must hang out more. I miss you saying really messed up things extremely loud in the Islands Cafe.
